Schenectady, NY – The Tide faced off against Albany Rush at Union College on 06/22/2024, ultimately falling 2-1.

SUMMARY

The Tide were narrowly defeated by Albany Rush in a closely contested match. An early disputed goal and a late equalizer weren't enough to secure a draw, as Albany Rush scored in added time to win. Jasmine Leshnick was a key player on offense and earned Player of the Match honors.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game saw an early goal in the 5th minute when Albany Rush earned a controversial goal. Ruth Hotaling’s corner kick led to a save by Sally Rainey, but the assistant referee ruled that Rainey had carried the ball over the goal line, putting Albany Rush ahead 1-0. The Tide responded by creating several opportunities; Anamari Bosnjak's and Sarah Peternel’s shots were notable efforts but were stopped by the Albany Rush goalkeeper, Molly DiCaprio.

As the match progressed, The Tide increased their offensive pressure. Jasmine Leshnick was a constant threat, firing multiple shots on goal that tested DiCaprio. The Tide's persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Ashley Connolly pounced on a loose ball to equalize, bringing the score to 1-1.

However, Albany quickly answered with a goal of their own in added time. An Albany Rush attack found the back of the Tide net, reclaiming the lead with a well-placed shot that sealed the game at 2-1. A final free-kick attempt by Sarah Peternel to level the game sailed just high of the crossbar, leaving The Tide with a narrow defeat.

LOOKING AHEAD

The next match will be back on home turf at Memorial Stadium in Portland Maine on 6/29/2024. The Tide will rematch last week’s opponent, Sporting CT.
